cool in culottes || revisiting Vogue 9075

Alright gang – I finally understand what all the hype around this pattern. Some sewing bloggers say it’s their most used pattern ever, or the first pattern that gave them the confidence to sew! One of my favorite sewing bloggers, Rosy Pena, does an awesome job of talking about the pattern here! I tried it once — and was honestly like, meh. I didn’t love the fit, I hated doing the gathers in the skirt, and was overall underwhelmed. See my initial pattern review here!! But I’m not a quitter, y’all.

new year, new(ish) to blogging || my 2019 roadmap

Hellooooo!

I just got back in town from a great weekend in Florida, where I had plenty of time to brainstorm ideas for what I’d like my blog to become. Huge shoutout to the coolest blogger Cat over at Ctrl + Curate for being an awesome host and for giving me some handy tips for photo taking and Lightroom editing 😍

York Pinafore in Denim!

It’s hard to believe that I’ve already had ten blog posts! I’ve seen a lot of sewing blogs that go over different sewing challenges, i.e. the #MakeNine2019 challenge or #SewMyStyle2019, and the like, but I didn’t feel like those really suited me. I’m not sure if that means I’m less of a planner, but I think this year still holds a lot of major unknowns for me and I don’t want to constrain myself to specific patterns or styles.

I will, however, set a different challenge for myself – to not just Make but to Do nine big things this year:

IKEA sells fabric? || Tilly and the Buttons Stevie dress + fabric review

When I started garment sewing a little over a year ago, I bought up loads of fabric thinking I would be able to sew it all — fast forward to today, finding myself digging through my ever-growing fabric stash and dusting off 3+ yards of medium weight home decor fabric from IKEA. Mind you, this fabric is freakin adorable 😍! It’s a woven white fabric with scattered black polka dots in random line groupings. At the time, I just didn’t have the perfect pattern for it — well, at least that’s what I told myself.

After a quick wardrobe assessment, I realized that I’d been sewing up a lot of ~fancier~ garments and not too many casual pieces. A scroll through my “saved” folder on Instagram took me to the Stevie dress from Tilly and the Buttons. I’d never sewn anything from their patterns before but after scrolling through the hashtag #sewingstevie and #tillyandthebuttons, I fell in love and so many other people were singing praises of this pattern from all corners of the internet. So obviously, I downloaded it, printed it, and here we are.

gathers || a Vogue 9075 pattern review

hey gang – i’m back again with another make!

As a resident of the beautiful Houston, TX – the weather is constantly changing. In one weekend it can be 40 degrees + pouring rain, and 75 degrees and sunny, making planning winter outfits a little complicated. Enter – the flannel dress!

I bought the Vogue 9075 pattern with the intent to make the fun jumpsuit/culotte view. Link to the pattern is here! However, after looking at my fabric stash, I was a little wary of cutting into some of my more expensive fabrics without knowing how well this pattern would fit and what adjustments I would have to make. I had some clearance flannel shirting from Joann Fabrics (link here!) that I had bought because it was literally  like $3/yard from a few weeks ago that seemed like the perfect weight/drape for a cold weather transition dress The goal was to make a dress that could easily be paired with tights and a scarf if it was chilly outside or just on its own with cute boots and a light jacket if the weather was a little kinder that day.
