Phew. For this post, I did a lot of sewing, all in the name of my best gal pals for easily one of the 👯♀️👯♀️ most fun days of the year – Galentine’s Day! Because the majority of my friends are all on funky work/school schedules, we celebrated Galentine’s Day with a little photoshoot of these fun dresses and eating an absurd amount of cakes and assorted desserts from our local Susie Cakes.
As a selfish sewist, it’s rare that I take the time to make garments for anyone else in my life. But given the amount of free time I had last month in addition to a great sale on flannel at my local Joann Fabrics, I decided to make flannel sleep dresses for my friends (#squad amirite ??)!
Fabric: 45″ pink gingham flannel from Joann Fabrics, 2 yards for each dress
Pattern: Tilly and the Buttons Stevie Dress
Thoughts: I didn’t realize how exhausting this whole process would be, to be completely honest, I felt pretty burned out by the end of it. Batch sewing is very challenging, but it is satisfying to see how much you can sew up at once. Nonetheless, I’m super pleased with how they all turned out and my friends loved their outfits!
I think it made for a fun photo shoot, and I think you could definitely get creative with the fabric choice (i’m comin for ya, avocado flannel!). Unfortunately it was hard to capture the light pink gingham in photos, but I swear in person it looks fabulous! Ultimately, this was definitely a welcome change from the typical sewing gift of pajama pants! Also, I actually have been wearing this (night gown? sleep shirt? sleep dress?) to sleep for the past week and I’m obsessed. It’s perfect, warm yet breathable, and cute!
What are your plans for Galentine’s Day?
