Hello all! So excited to bring to you the first upcycled creation from my goodwill haul!!

Last week, I talked about all the fabric I bought from my local Goodwill, one of them being this light blue soft chambray/cotton twin bed sheet.

I decided to make it into the Sierra Jumpsuit from Papercut Patterns  — link is here!  After washing + drying all of the fabric I had purchased, I went through my pattern collection to see what I would want to make. I initially thought I would only have enough fabric for the romper/playsuit version of the Sierra pattern, but once I laid out all of the pattern pieces, I went with the full length jumpsuit in size Medium.

I used the same fabric for the main garment and the lining in an effort to make things easier on myself, but ended up getting confused between which pieces belonged to the bodice versus the lining. The main construction of the fabric is relatively straightforward! The entire bodice is fully lined, which makes for a clean finish. The part I mostly struggled with was the pocket insertion, which involves sewing both parts of the pocket bag to the front pant leg, before attaching the back pant leg. This varied from other patterns with pockets that I’ve used in the past, but with my trusty seam ripper I was able to figure it out!

I didn’t have to make any modifications to the pattern! The pant leg length was perfect and I had no issues with the bodice or hips. The tie waist is such a nice touch because it cinches everything together so cleanly and provides a great shape to the otherwise loose-fitting garment.

Overall, I am super happy with the final result, and next time I would like to make the short playsuit version and maybe even in a smaller size for a sleeker finish!  I have some lovely printed cottons in my stash that are waiting to see the sunlight this summer. I’m honestly amazed that this used to be a bed sheet and am thrilled to have upcycled this fabric into a garment that will certainly get tons of wear this summer and beyond.
